Molly, our St. Bernard mix, did basic obedience in Colorado which was adequate for our surroundings. Where we lived all the houses had backyards and when we took Molly for walks seldom met aggressive/out of control dogs because, I assume, the owners of aggressive dogs/out of control dogs kept them contained to their backyards.

However, when we moved to Baltimore, right into the heart of the city, we quickly realized that a consequence of living in a city of row houses is that no one has a backyard. Accordingly, all dogs, even aggressive dogs/out of control dogs, must be walked on leash on the sidewalks and in the parks. This circumstance led to our decision to refresh/improve Molly’s training, that way even if other dog owners could not control their dogs we would be able to control our dog and avoid or minimize the chance of any unpleasant or dangerous encounters.
When we signed Molly up we were expecting basic obedience refresher, what we got was an amazing course on dog obedience and dog psychology. We better understand our dog, why she does things, and how we can accentuate the positive and correct/eliminate the unwanted behaviors. I cannot tell you enough what a great resource you have been to us. Explaining to us why techniques worked, why we should lead off with the left foot when doing heeling work, and why moving our hands the way we did was causing our dog to do the wrong things was especially important. We greatly appreciated that you were available to us to ask questions regarding all our dog’s behavior issues not just walking on a leash or sitting.
We were so impressed we adopted another dog, Inky. Inky, a pit bull mix puppy, comes with his own set of challenges. With your help he is doing very well at his basic obedience and we hope to continue him on to more challenging obedience work in the future.
Additionally, we were pleased with your encouragement to go to dog training trials to watch other handlers, ask questions, and aspire to high levels of understanding and training.
We are very grateful that we found K9 Koncepts and enrolled our dogs. The investment in them is paying us back tenfold. Dog training has been fun, educational, and challenging. We would highly recommend K9 Koncepts to anyone.

Thanks for all your Help!

I have been training my Cane Corso puppy “Steele” (now 105 pounds @ 10 months) at K-9 Koncepts for several months now.
I knew I had picked the right place when I saw how Kirstin (Kiki) worked with her German Shepherd Kanto.
It was like watching a  synchronized ballet, they worked so beautifully together.
One of the other things that impressed me the most was how happy her dog  trained.
Kirstin does a great job working with her students, making the sessions fun for both the dogs and owners.
Steele and I are  also working with Gail and Rachel who are also excellent trainers, and have the same philosophy of training the dogs with positive  reinforcement but correction as needed.  It’s nice to have a variety of styles to work with.
When my Cane Corso (which could be a very aggressive dog if not trained properly) shows up for class,
his whole body is wagging he is so happy to see all three instructors.
~This puts a smile on my face.~

Our lives are shaped by the things we do and the people we meet along the way.
Steele and I are so glad we choose this great group of people.  They have definitely shaped the quality of life for my dog
(for the better) and helped me to manage a dominant breed dog.

Thanks for all of your help!

I wanted to send a letter of thanks to all the trainers at K9 Koncepts.

We adopted Krueger in the spring from the Calvert County Animal Shelter. The shelter performed a temperament assessment on him, and cautioned us that they were unsure how he would behave around other dogs.

That concerned my husband and me, because we had an 8 year old shih tzu at home. We decided to move forward with the adoption. When we brought Krueger home he would lunge at my other dog and every other dog he would come in contact with. We ended up keeping the two dogs separate for a few weeks while we were in a mad dash to find an obedience school to help us train Krueger.

We took our first dog to Petsmart for training, and we knew some of the basics. However we knew upfront that the Petsmart training wouldn’t be enough for Krueger. We originally started training with a gentleman that we were referred to. We only went to 3 training sessions with him, and knew it wasn’t for us. He didn’t offer a set schedule or location to meet, he wouldn’t return phone calls, and his training was only focused on e-collar training the entire session. Krueger seemed pretty miserable through out the training. We contacted about 4 or 5 obedience schools/trainers in the area. Most were unresponsive, unprofessional, and not at all interested in our business. One trainer actually returned my phone call one month after I left a message with him.

After our failed attempt at finding a new trainer, we stumbled upon K9 Koncepts. Bill immediately contacted me after I expressed interest. He even offered to meet us on Memorial Day while classes were canceled. We signed up immediately after hearing what the school offered; set schedule multiple times a week, set location with obstacle course, and multiple trainers that were available to us whenever we had questions. After only a few days of attending training, we noticed a difference in Krueger for the better. Krueger would respond to the commands we were taught without the use of the e-collar. He was less hyper, but still managed to keep the fun-loving puppy energy we loved. We were also able to let our two dogs play together without any problems. In only two months, we were able to graduate from basic obedience. We constantly hear from people that come in contact with Krueger that he is so well behaved, and they wish they had a dog like him. We even have two neighbors that are interested in attending K9 Koncepts after seeing Krueger’s transformation.

Thank you Bill, Kiki, Rachel and Gale!!!!

We can’t wait to learn new things in advanced class.

Thank you K9-Koncepts! A quick Review of how you all have changed our lives!

We first called K-9 Koncepts because we found that behind the adorable Rottweiler puppy-face,that initially won us over on the shelter website was a full tail and a secret desire to ATTACK any dog in his general vicinity. Our fifteen-dollar, 12-month-old Rottweiler (although we call him our Runtweiler), Otto, was dog aggressive to say the least. Having owned several large breed dogs in the past, we had never faced a problem that we couldn't handle on our own when it came to socialization. After weeks of attempting to correct his behavior, Otto showed no improvement other than accepting our Boxer.  He couldn't even remain calm with dogs in the distance. That's when we knew we needed help.We went in for an evaluation and met Bill, where saw what class would be like in the program with dogs of all breeds calmly following their owner's commands. Otto's dog aggression was only confirmed as he lunged and snarled at any and every dog in his sight.  Bill stepped in, showed my husband and me some techniques to help control Otto, and reassured us that this behavior was something that we could correct.Just watching Bill work, we knew that this was a man who truly loved dogs and knew what he was doing. The things we learned the first time we met him showed a huge improvement on walks with Otto at home. And after just two classes, I had what I needed most—faith. Not just in my dog, but in myself. Through our training with Kiki and Rachel, I learned to trust myself and stay calm no matter how uncertain the situation, which helped Otto, in turn, stay calm. And from that faith and trust, came a bond between myself and my dog that I could never put a price on. After countless hours of hand-feeding Otto and face-to-face trust building exercises around a multitude of other dogs, my skittish, aggressive, discount dog became my loyal companion, and a joy that I can now bring around other people without worrying about how he might react. To say that training was beneficial is an understatement. K-9 Koncepts gave us the tools necessary to train Otto, as well as the knowledge that there really are amazing people like Bill, Kiki, and Rachel in the world.  They are so compassionate that when we first went on vacation and boarded Otto with them, Kiki offered her personal cellphone number to help keep us at ease. Our experience with K-9 Koncepts was so helpful, that we chose to sign Otto up for more training, even after he graduated from basic. Now, the dog that once wanted to ATTACK any other dog around him, can sit calmly as  a myriad of other dog-training activities occur, focus solely on my commands, and obey, even off-lead, through all sorts of distractions.

I know Otto enjoys the class.

Whenever I get out his e- and pinch-collar, he dances around and is glued to my side until we get there.Whether it's the training, or the hot dogs(training treats), it's an experience enjoyed by all and we highly recommend it.
Even if you don't have a "problem" or "aggressive" dog the training gives you an incredible bond with your dog.

Whatever dogs wait for us in the future, they will be trained at K-9 Koncepts.

Jennifer and Guinness

I have been to several dog trainers without success.  Most recently I had been to Annapolis to probably the world’s worst dog trainer.  He was downright disrespectful to myself and my husband and believed that dogs were nothing but guard/working dogs.  Totally disheartened my husband made one last stitch effort.  With that, he found K9 Koncepts.  The next morning I called and spoke to Bill.  He was very understanding of my frustrations and invited myself and my husband to visit and see what they actually do.  Bill spent over an hour with us discussing our concerns.  I have a German Shepherd named Guinness who pulled while walking, came when he wanted to come, and didn’t always appreciate other dogs.  He had never bit anyone or anything, but sounded mean.  Guinness (age 5) was with me during this visit, Bill stated with confidence “we can help YOU”.  I say it like that, because the team at K9 Koncepts doesn’t train your dog, they train YOU.  I had A LOT to learn.

My first class was not what I expected.  I walked in and immediately got corrected on what I was doing by both Kiki and Rachel.  At first I was extremely offended, but today I realize how right they were!  I can’t express how lucky Guinness and I are to have worked and continue to work with both Kiki and Rachel!  I think they test you in the beginning to see if you are motivated to do the work needed, but once they see how dedicated you are they put even more effort into helping you.  Everyday that we go to class I learn something new.

After only 8 weeks of basic training Guinness and I graduated.  I was told we were one of the fastest, which is great with a 5 year old!  We are now in the advanced class and we have more of a bond than I ever had with him!  I look forward to taking him every week and working off leash and with agility.  I am so glad that my husband found K9 Koncepts, and will continue to work with them with Guinness and any future dog I may own.  Thank you all so much for what you have given me!!

Leila and Diablo

My name  is Leila and I brought my 2 year old pitbull to K9 Koncepts in February 2012.
Prior to my obidence training with KiKi and Bill I had no idea how to raise a well mannered dog.
I thought all I had to do was give him love, but unfortunately that is not the case.
Diablo started to show signs of aggression and was very disobedient.
I came to realize that his behavior was not entirely his fault, but my fault also.
Two people recommended that I looked into a place called K9 Koncepts,
being as how they were willing to work with Pitbulls.
After meeting Bill and introducing him to Diablo I walked away with confidence that they could help him with his issues.
In the 5 months that I have been doing the obedience training with KiKi, both me and my dog have improved tremendously.
My dog and I both enjoy going to our training sessions, I am gaining more confidence and knowledge on how to properly manage my dog and Diablo has come a very long way from when we started.
From my experience with K9 Koncepts staff I can tell you that they sincerely love the animals and train the people.
I would definitely recommend anybody with any breed of dog to them.

Bill and his staff at K9-Koncepts are Miracle workers!
Thank you for all of your work with Mollie.  She is now such a wonderful addition to our family. She walks well on a leash and actually plays with other dogs. You all are miracle workers.

Thanks Again,
Jessica Taylor, Donna Rittermann & Mollie

K9 Koncepts is the place to go for obedience classes.

I have an 8 month old white German Shepherd named Holly. When I first got her flown in from Missouri I knew she was going to be a fearful dog. But I never thought she would get as bad as she did. I could not take her near other people or dogs without her going crazy trying to run and hide, pulling away from me, and barking her head off. It got to the point where my vet said if I did not enroll her in some kind of obedience classes and get her socialized she would become a fear bitter and to hard to control. I didn't want that to happen because she is such a beautiful dog. So I looked into a few places that offered obedience training. None of the places really impressed me with there knowledge of dog behavior and their interest in helping me with my dogs individual problem until I found Bill at K9 Koncepts.

The moment I talked to Bill I knew this is where I would be taking Holly. He listened to my story and I could tell right away that his knowledge of the dog was phenomenal. When I took her there he watched how she behaved and right away he said this dog needs a lot of work to over come her fears but it can be done. He set me up with one of the trainer's named Gale who is great and little by little they got Holly use to the other people and dogs in the group along with learning her basic obedience sit, stay, come, etc... Now after only 5 weeks of training I have seen a big improvement in Holly she actually can sit in the group as apposed to being a couple of feet away in the beginning. She is also taking food right out of Bill and Gale's hands which is amazing considering before she would bark, growl, and run away from them. It is so exciting to be able to take her to the park without being afraid of what she will do to the others that are around her because of her fears. I can't wait to see what the other 11 weeks I have of training will bring.

Thanks,

Jen and Holly

Dear K9 Koncepts,
Bill we want to tell you how impressed we are with your dog training course. This is the best school we have seen yet and we did a lot of research on schools for training dogs.

Everybody that owns a dog should go your school to keep dogs safe and well behaved. I would be crazy if my dog took off running in the street and got hit by a car because he wasn't trained well enough.

He is also now becoming well behaved around children. We can't thank you enough! Most people are afraid of two Dobermans but with your training they are becoming more at ease.

Thanks,

Lailani & Jim Ryan

As the proud parents of Nossi and his hero, Bam Bam,

I would like to tell you how much you all at K9 Koncepts mean to us. Nossi has Autism, a sensory spectrum disorder that affects 1 in 150 children. Every child with autism has different needs.  Nossi has no concept of personal safety, and gets overly stimulated in public places, causing him to have “meltdowns”, break away and run off.  We could not function as a normal family in public with our son, and that was very difficult and painful for us. Nossi needed a mobile anchor in public places that could help him with his difficulties.  He needed a friend that was always there for him.   If we wanted to get an assistance dog for our son from one of the established service dog organizations, we would have had to add custom training on top of the training the dog came with.  With prices up to $18,000.00 for a trained dog, it was out of out reach.  We found the right breed and temperament – in our case a Standard Poodle.  With the help and advice of Bill Campbell and his staff at K9 Koncepts, we located the dog, began training, and now have our own custom-trained assistance dog for a fraction of the money. They both still have a lot to learn, but Bam Bam and Nossi work as a team to keep Nossi safe and near his family.

We cannot say enough about the benefits of professionally training your own dog. You will see such a boost in your confidence in your ability to train, because you see results in both you and the dog.  As you train, you gain an intimate knowledge of your dog, the dog’s abilities, and the weaknesses of both dog and trainer.  This level of personal growth and accomplishment will help you enjoy and show pride in a four-legged family member.   So why do we recommend and sing the benefits of using K9Koncepts?  It is simple.  The staff.  They are respectful and professional, provide personal attention, and have many, many years of experience training and working with dogs.  They have a combined, deep and layered knowledge of training, breeds, and techniques. Having gotten to know Bill Campbell, James, and all the staff at K9 Koncepts, we know that it is not customer service; it is the much rarer concept of personal interest.  The really want and need to know how things are going.   We would be happy to discuss the training and acquisition of these kinds of dogs with anyone with a similar need.  We look forward to continuing training with K9 Koncepts, and our great relationship with the staff and fellow satisfied customers.

I just wanted to write a letter of thanks to Bill and to let other dog owners know how successful K9 Koncepts is.

I have an adorable yellow lab/ pit bull mix. He has never been aggressive towards anyone or anything and is the friendliest dog! That was not our problem. Our problem was that he just would not listen. I'm not talking about accidents in the house or chewing on things. I'm talking about slipping out of his collar and running nonstop throughout the neighborhood, pulling as we tried to walk him and generally just not behaving. The last straw was when he ran out onto Harford Rd. across four lanes of traffic and head butted a moving car. We knew then that we had to do something or we would lose our sweet, precious Lombardi.
After looking around on the internet I came across K9 Koncepts' website. I gave them a call and within minutes Bill was calling back. That was just the beginning of what turned out to be great communication and customer service. We took Lombardi to observe a class and after watching for just 15 minutes we were so impressed with James and the reasonable price that we knew there was no question we would be coming back.
That very same day James started working with Lombardi. After a little sassing from my boy James showed him who was boss and it's been that way ever since. We now take him outside without a leash and don't give a fleeting thought to him running away and not coming back when he's called. The best part about the training is that Lombardi and I have bonded so much more since we started. He comes everywhere with us now and everyone comments on how well-behaved he is. He is free and happy and so are we! He has come such a long way that he has done some obedience demonstrations and we're considering putting him in obedience shows and competitions.
Lombardi also started looking forward to class. On Saturday mornings he would jump into the car and as we got closer to the field he would start wagging his tail, jumping around and just getting excited. He was so happy to do what we asked of him and always had his dopey grin on his face as we were working.
It's a big commitment but definitely worth it! Your dog and you will be so much closer and happier.

Thank you K9 Koncepts for helping Lombardi and I to be much happier!

P.S. James is the best!
